Nothing makes you think of summer in Peoria like the Speedway, whether you're in the stands covered in dust from the track, or at a backyard cookout in West Peoria listening to the not-so-distant roar of engines. You cannot ignore that racing is a longstanding tradition in this town. Peoria Speedway originally opened in 1948 at Mount Hawley Airport. It moved to its present location on Farmington Road in 1965 and continues to be a fun, loud, and dirty way to spend a summer evening.
